Haiku Sonnet

It’s not often that I write structured poetry, but I happened across this form and really liked it. So, here it is. My Haiku Sonnet.

hometown

dusky light settles
on the broad shoulders of oaks
that line my hometown

honeysuckle scents
drift into my senses i
think of times long past

meandering through
thoughts and streets that once I knew
lonesome playground calls

young girl swings in joy
safe haven from storms of home
teardrops in her eyes

i smile at childhood’s ghost who
grew up far too soon
