The Gap Between
Stories swirl in a cyclone of loose leaf,
disregarded sentences—
carelessly tossed aside—
litter our streets with anecdotes and
tall tales of
sadness and gloom,
and we are all so afraid of the words tossed around;
these reflections of society.
Two blocks down,
in the district known as
Cardboard City—
where no one walks on their own
after dark,
for fear of coming face to face with this
disease called homelessness—
shelters built out of boxes
settle on beds made from fear,
and the unwanted words of those who have,
blanket the night
for those who have not.
Wow! This is brilliant poetry that really hits hard. How beautifully you have penned this gap.

Your poem completely touched my heart! I work with the homeless so I relate well to your words. Very nice work from you dear poet! Looking forward to continuing to read your words.

Thank you! I wrote it after seeing a news report earlier that said homelessness has gone up by 138% in the nearest city to my home. That’s just this year! It makes me so sad. Angry, as well.
